Walking

Why Walk?

Over 25% of all journeys annually are made on foot - it’s likely that at least part of your normal journey to work is on foot. Walking is a natural, convenient and enjoyable activity available to all. In addition, walking is a great way to improve health and relieve stress and should be considered as a realistic sustainable travel alternative.

Over recent years a number of improvements have been made to Team Valley to install new crossing facilities and improve footways; this should make walking a more attractive option. If you have any comments or suggestions relating to the pedestrian network at Team Valley please contact the Travel Plan Coordinator.

Why not Walk to Work?

Not quite sure how to get from your home to work on foot? You could use the Walkit website to plan your journey. The site gives you the route required, and also guides you to the time it may take and the benefits to your health and the environment. If it’s too far to walk from home to work, use the site to see how to get the there on foot from the nearest bus or Metro station.  However - Walkit currently does not cover all of the Team Valley or the area to the west (Lobley Hill etc.) so you may need to use an A-Z for some journeys for a while.

Worried about the weather? Want to walk but don’t want to get wet? See if your company operates an Umbrella Pool. Just borrow a brolly for your journey home and return it the next day for others to use. Ask your line manager to see if there is one operating at your workplace, if not why don’t you suggest it?

Don’t want to walk to work in your best gear? Make use of the showers and lockers at your workplace and get changed when you arrive. It’s easy, so why not give it a go and start walking your way to a healthier lifestyle (and wallet!)
