Motorcycles, Scooters and Mopeds
As a mode of transport, motorcycles, scooters and mopeds offer a number of benefits. They are an affordable alternative to the car, providing independence and mobility, and widening employment opportunities, especially in rural areas where public transport may be limited. They can also provide quicker travel in town and city congestion. Motorcycles and scooters also compare favourably to other sorts of vehicles, environmentally. They have a clear advantage over cars in terms of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. For example, smaller machines (e.g. engine capacity less than 400 cc) that are often used for commuting and around towns and cities, have CO2 emissions of less than half of those of the average car due to their far greater fuel economy.
How can I promote Motorcycles, Scooters and Mopeds?
The last ten years have seen a resurgence in the ownership of motorcycles, scooters and mopeds, with increases in registrations of over 200%.
The most important measure for supporting bikers is offering them secure parking and somewhere safe to store their safety clothing and crash helmets. Both of these measures can be achieved for very little expenditure.
You might also consider introducing a specific mileage rate for employees who use their motorcycle, scooter or moped to attend meetings rather than using their car.
Why not visit our new discussion forum "Get Involved" where bikers can share their views with us and let us know how we can work together to better support their needs.
